Spring has come. Come to Palace Herbal Spa for "Spring Massage".
now featuring springtime massage:
Spring has come. According to Chinese Medicine, the liver channels dominate your health in spring through coordination with tendons. In spring, your body turns into a budding tree. Massage in spring should be medium firm, so as to nourish the liver system, techniques are "massaging away from the heart" to the arms and legs, since liver loves spreading and stretching out, just like a tree. Please avoid Swedish massage that massages "towards the heart" , it will jam your energy, and your body will turn weak or even sick. Therapeutic massage is Chinese medicine massage, only at Palace Herbal Spa.
Beware of some "aroma" therapies at this season. People who tend to eat to much "yang" food, such as beef, cheese, and sugar, should avoid any aroma therapy containing "yang" elements such as chocolate, sugar, etc.
Warning: no aroma therapy should be practiced in prenatal massage!
There is a balance of yin and yang inside our body, if you get too much yang, or too much yin, you will be out of balance and become sick. Too much yang is like fire burning your water away, it will cause hypertension, loss of hair, deficiency of yin for ladies's sex properties, etc.
We highly recommend a combination of 30 min foot reflexology and 30 min table massage at this season. Foot reflexology can target your liver therapy zones, while a table massage can nourish your liver meridians. This is the ultimate relaxation and therapy you can get for therapeutic massage.
Combo Massage: 30 min foot + 30 min table for only $61

Prenatal Massage $69
By Master Jone at Palace Herbal Spa, Poway
Prenatal Massage was started to be practiced in China about 5,000 years ago, when Traditional Chinese Medicine theory was created. It was first used in the royal palaces to help the pregnant woman to stay free from negative energies and to give birth to a "dragon child", who is considered a child that is given by god to be the smartest and healthiest of all.
Nowadays, Traditional Chinese Medicinal Prenatal Massage has found its new meanings by combining with modern medical science. Women who receive regular prenatal massage are reported to have less distress, less pain, and a lower early birth rate.
Unlike the old Western prenatal massage, the TCM Prenatal Massage knows where to touch, and where not to touch. The master knows what techniques and areas to use, and what to avoid, with the meridians theory and therapy zones engraved in his mind.
Prenatal massage techniques tailor to the woman's special needs at different period of pregnancy. During the first 3 months, most of ladies find they are hard to lie face-down because of their sore breasts. After mid-term, when the baby gets bigger, the lady should not lie face-up for too long, because the weight of the uterus puts too much pressure to the vein under it. It will block the blood returning from the lower part of the body back to the heart. It is a good idea to let the lady lie on her side, with her arm and leg on a long body pillow. Remember to let her switch side for every 20 minutes. Ladies after midterm are recommended to have prenatal massage for no more than 40 minutes lying on the table, with 20 minutes for each side of the body.
The massage therapist must also have a good understanding of acupuncture theory. There are some areas on the body which can not be touched with pressure: like the heels, back of the ankle, lower part of the spine, etc. There are also some major acupuncture points that shall never be used, for example, "Hegu", or " LI-4", number 4 of the Large Intestine channel. This point is located at the joint of your thumb and index finger, which is for relieving headache and hypertension. However, it can also relax the smooth tissue inside the uterus and may cause miscarriage.
Thank you for sharing the above info with Palace Herbal Spa. If you love to have a prenatal massage with us, please schedule your appointment with May at 858-776-8933.

How to Get a Massage: Avoid the Wrong, Get the Right
A "MUST-READ"
Dear Patron, whether you are having a massage at home, or in a spa, please bear the following in mind to avoid issues or problems that may affect your health:
1. Please avoid light Swedish massage in winter. According to Chinese Medicine, the kidney meridian rules your health through coordination with bones in winter, and massage should be deep and firm. A light touch massage can leak your kidney energy and cause sickness for the next spring.
In springtime, a so called Swedish circulatory massage can often jam your energy when the "therapist" massages towards the heart. Because at this season, the liver rules your body. Liver system likes spreading as a tree, and massage should be going "away from the heart".
2. Do not have massage right after you have a full meal. If you take pills, please wait for at least 3 hours before receiving Chinese massage. Meridian channels in your body see the pills as toxins and a Chinese massage will flush toxins out from your body.
3. Chinese medicine prohibits hot bath for massage. So do not have any hot shower, sauna, or jacuzzi two hours before or after the massage. A Chinese massage will open up your meridian channels and a hot bath can let the "evil energy" to invade into your channels and cause serious health problems, including kidney yang deficiency. A light warm shower is recommended. Chinese medicine also prohibits two "therapists" massaging one patron at the same time. The so called "four-hands" from two different people can never coordinate well enough, and the flow of life force will be driven to wrong directions, and this will result in extreme discomfort or even sickness.
Red color is also against the spirit of "zen", which means inner meditation and tranquility. In Chinese Fengshui theory, red color means blood and shall not be used in a zen style spa or massage rooms. It is also against western Christian tradition to use red color in day spas or massage establishements.
5. Please do not place any serious religious figures in the spa. Do not use symbols like dragons or warriors in the spa either. Such figures or symbols exert too much energy and it will interrupt the "chi" of tranquility in the spa room. Dragons are for health & good luck in China, they are often used in restaurants or night clubs, but it should not appear in a massage spa. Also, dragon is fire, and spa is water. They are hostile elements to each other.
6. Avoid disturbing TV shows or any other disturbing talking or noise. Keep yourself in a "think-of-nothing state. If you do want to watch something, I recommend those DVDs made for spas. Those natural sound like birds, flowing water, or rain combined with the beauty of gardens or landscape do bring you relaxation.
7. For foot spas, always use a liner to prevent spread of foot disease. If the spa forgets to use the liner, please remind them at once.
8. When receiving massage, keep your talk at minimum, and when the therapist positions your legs or arms, do not give help.
9. It is not recommended to receive more than 2 hours of massage in a single day. People with serious organ problems or nerve problems should not have massage. Consult your physician.
10. Drink plenty of water after massage to help drain the lactic acid and other toxins from your body.
11. After massage, please avoid long drive, or any other strenuous work.
Thanks for reading.

CHINESE MEDICINE PROHIBITS HOT BATH FOR MASSAGE
Oriental massage is based on Chinese acupuncture theory. The purpose is to unblock the Meridian Channels in your body, so as the "chi", or life force, can flow freely. It is a very sophisticated process which will usually last one hour to make it really work. During this process, your tissue will be filled with more blood and will become tender, and your nerves become much more active. At the same time, those invisible channels throughout your body will work with your nerves and blood network to fight the "evil energy", which is normally called pain, soreness, joints problems, or any other ailments.
Chinese medicine prohibits "hot bath" for massage. A hot bath, in American sense, can be various things: a hot spa, sauna, Jacuzzi, hot tub soak, hot shower, etc.
It is highly recommended that the client shall not take a “hot bath” at least two hours prior to the massage, or, two hours after the massage. The hot bath will damage your tissues, and give complication to the nerve system. It will be contradictory to the meridian channel management process. Furthermore, it can cause kidney yang deficiency for man( erectile dysfunction and hair loss), and it even can be fatal to some people.
We recommend you take a light, quick warm shower before or after the massage. If you do need a hot bath, Jacuzzi, wait for at least two hours after the massage. And remember: drink plenty of water after the massage before using your hot bath. This will help your body to return to its normal state, and help it to detoxify as well.
